Lawsuit of Patrick Mason against GMCS
We appreciate Judge DePauli’s ruling in favor of Gallup-McKinley County Schools today, August 24, 2018. Patrick Mason sued GMCS in an attempt to force us to provide transportation for a new charter school, called Hózhó Academy that Mr. Mason founded. Had GMCS lost the case, we would have had to alter drop-off and pick-up times for your students’ busses, change school start and end times, and stop some transportation for some of our students. These changes would have negatively affected thousands of our GMCS students and families during the school year.
We will continue to advocate and fight for our GMCS students and families against these frivolous lawsuits that clearly challenge our rights as a District, and established state law. We appreciate other charter schools in our community that understand and follow the law, use their dollars wisely, and serve students while standing independently on their own.
GMCS will continue to utilize social media platforms instantly to reach thousands of community members to share GMCS announcements, student/staff recognitions and important information. We will also begin to use social media platforms to keep the public informed of the GMCS stance on important matters while also debunking any false claims by individuals, entities and the media against our school district.
We thank you for your support of Gallup-McKinley County Schools and appreciate the opportunity to serve students across our great county.
